Every certificate issued is written into an append-only register and sealed with a hash. Enter the ID and we will recompute that seal in front of you.

Printed on the certificate and on the lot paperwork. Nothing to sign up for — the check is open to anyone holding one.
We take the stored record and recompute its SHA-256 from scratch. A stored “valid” flag is never trusted — if one character of the contents changed, the recomputed hash no longer matches.
Every certificate commits to the one before it, so altering an old record breaks that record and every certificate issued after it. That is what makes the register tamper-evident rather than merely a list.
If a certificate does not verify, do not treat the paperwork as authoritative — ask the issuer to re-issue it from the register.
